The internet is a bigger part of the British economy than education, healthcare or construction. Britons generate more money online than any other G20 nation. But when it comes to high-speed broadband, the country is falling behind.

The UK’s average download speed is ranked 16th in Europe, according to IT company Akamai, and experts warn that the country is beginning to miss out as a result.

Ergo, high-speed broadband is not required to gain economic value from the internet. For we are gaining more economic value than others while having less high-speed broadband.

Not that The Guardian seems to be aware of this point. For they go on to say that obviously the answer is that the State should organise a monopoly company to roll out high-speed broadband. Apparently so that we can all have multiple channels of HDTV to watch as singletons.

Which doesn’t in fact sound like a huge addition of economic value to be honest.

The American Airlines plane was forced to turn back to the departure gate so the 53-year-old actor could be removed from the aircraft, delaying the early morning flight from LAX airport to New York.

The 30 Rock star, who could be fined over the incident, had been playing a computer game on his iPad, Words With Friends, a puzzle game which the actor reportedly “would risk being thrown off a flight to play”.

Words With Friends players compete online to score the most points by building words with tiles on a Scrabble-like game board.

Baldwin, who pledged never to not use the airline again, vented his frustration over the incident on his Twitter account @AlecBaldwin.

Hope you get this on time, I made a trip to Swansea, Wales and had my bag stolen from me with my passport and credit cards in it. The embassy is willing to help by letting me fly without my passport, I just have to pay for a ticket and settle Hotel bills. What is Search Engine Optimisation?

It’s the writing of a headline so that Google will pick it up.

SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is a marketing technique for making a web page appear more frequently above others in a list of results from a search engine.

Usually followed by a sub-head which repeats the terms which you want Google to pick up on.

SEO stands for search engine optimisation, a process for attracting more readers to a web site from search engines. Web pages can be edited in order to improve their visability in search engines, with the aim of appearing at the top of the list of results for a popular search term. The higher up the list of results for a search term a web page appears, the more people will click on it.

The article itself should then repeat those terms to really make sure that Google thinks it’s important and so will give it a high position.

You then describe what whatever it is actually is and dot those “keywords” around liberally.

Search engines…….Search engines……search engines…..Search engines……The SEO process…..Search engine optimisation …search ….. search engine results…. search results, ….. Search engines …. SEO…… SEO-based ……

This particular effort has got the number 1 ranking in Google News for “what is search engine optimisation”. Not on the front page of Google itself as yet though……

Mohan Koo, a cyber security specialist who is managing director of Dtex Systems (UK) said that a recent spate of attacks on large global organisations showed that hacking was carefully planned rather than opportunistic.

“Perhaps most frightening of all is the fact that these type of attacks could quite easily be directed towards Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) organisations, for example energy and water, where the impact of such a breach would have severe, immediate and potentially life-threatening consequences for everyday citizens.”

Yup, the penultimate bit before the concluding paragraph is always a security expert being given a chance to advertise their wares by frightening the shit out of us by insisting that if Organisation X has been hacked then think how appalling it would be if Organisation (s) A (B and C) was (were).

So phone Dtex Systems (some random anti-virus software company) right now folks!

Looking through the results I found that my post of 5 minutes ago was the number two entry for “minimum carbon price” in Google.

Highly efficient indexing there guys but not really all that helpful in this specific case…..

In concept it’s a little like that bloke who sold a million pixels on his site? But here it’s you bid to get your banner ad to the top of the queue ….once the queue reaches a few hundred or thousand banner ads then of course there’s going to be a very decent income indeed and that will depend upon how many people are willing to bid….which in turn depends upon how many people see the site and so on.

Essentially, the more eyeballs the more likely it is to work.
