He’s just so wonderful, calling out the masses to strike, to agitate, to demand:

To that Kaleckian lesson, however, we want to add a Gorzian one, especially in the United States: take productivity gains more in the form of gains in disposable time than in the form of more consumption. That’s our socialist ticket out of crisis, economic and environmental.

It’s almost as if he doesn’t know what it is that the hyper capitalism of the US already does:

In this paper, we use five decades of time‐use surveys to document trends in the allocation of
time. We document that a dramatic increase in leisure time lies behind the relatively stable
number of market hours worked (per working‐age adult) between 1965 and 2003. Specifically,
we document that leisure for men increased by 6‒8 hours per week (driven by a decline in
market work hours) and for women by 4‒8 hours per week (driven by a decline in home
production work hours). This increase in leisure corresponds to roughly an additional 5 to 10
weeks of vacation per year, assuming a 40‐hour work week.

But then that’s our Lenin. The proletariat should strike, agitate, demand, struggle for, what they’re already getting.

Presumably with Lenin at the head of said struggle.

Guess he’s finally picked a battle that he can win at least.

Now here’s a blog competition that’s really worth winning.

I thought it might be a larf to run a poll of my own: the Top 100 Worst UK Political Blogs.

The rules are pretty much the same as the TP poll. To get practice in in case next year’s referendum supports the move to the Alternative Vote, readers are invited to submit a rank order of their ten least favourite blogs. First gets ten points, 10th one point – I’m sure you know the drill. Only one set of votes per person please, and votes nominating less than three blogs will be discounted. No anonymous votes will be accepted as there’s no excuse for not identifying yourself by a monicker these days, and votes can either be submitted via email to top100worst at yahoo.co.uk or in the comments below.

Yes, vote for me as your least favourite blog. Then make sure that you’ve only got two other nominations (so as to avoid anyone coming up the outside by scooping up lots of low ranking nominations) and further, make sure that you don’t nominate as your second or third anyone that others already have.

Unlike any of the other blog rankings and competitions around this is one that I could actually win. No need for ballot stuffing of course, natural talent should be enough but I do have to bring it to your attention, don’t I?

Worst UK political blog. Yes, a title worth having and yes, if you look at the comments there I’m already in the running.

Come on peeps, you know your duty.

Vote for MEEEEEEE!!!!!

When, of course, middle aged economist should in fact read middle aged monarch on how to nap.

As Charles V pointed out.

In order to have a successful siesta, one will require one throne, one castle and one castle key. Place oneself upon the throne inside the castle and hold the castle key in one’s left hand.

Fall asleep.

As one falls into a deep sleep one’s left hand will relax, dropping the large and heavy castle key onto the stone floor of the castle, thus waking one.

This process will take 15 to 20 minutes which is exactly the time required for a refreshing siesta.

If one is sadly bereft of thrones, castles or castle keys (although who really is without at least one of each of these essentials), no doubt a suitably innovative mind could create substitutes.

No-one would ever dare say “I don’t know how to use a telephone / DVD player / washing machine” but “I’m useless with computers” is still far too prevalent and indeed acceptable.

It must be the Geek in him.

I get horribly confused by DVD players *, washing machines** and anything other than simply dialling a number on a telephone is beyond me…..as anyone who has ever tried to leave me a voicemail knows.

Why should it be unacceptable to not give a shit about the details of technologies that you don’t give a shit about? As to computers….look, it’s a typewriter with a web browser to access the intertubes. And as for this:

An assumption that, because I’m the IT guy, I can solve anything if they ask me…

If you can’t, what are you doing masquerading as the IT guy? You have heard of the division and specialisation of labour? You go off and learn how to do that and we’ll do something else?

* No, really, it it’s anything more than put the disk in and press play I don’t get it. I’ve, at times, spent 15 minutes or so with various hand held things pointing them at various boxes and screens and got nowhere, giving up and going off to read a book instead.

**Insert jokes about men etc. Yes, I can turn a washing machine on but so I’m repeatedly told I don’t do it in the right way. For some odd reason.
