On the subject of the European Union

November 19th, 2012 · 9 Comments

So, a Polish politician asks an important question about the European Union:

So what is it that the UK really wants?

To which there is an important answer.

We’d like the European Union to fuck off and die please.

Thank you so very much.

Hey, if we’re dreaming, why aim so low? The EU can fuck off and die, and the French can return the Occupied Territories of Normandy etc.

Well the EU’s Arm Manche region should certainly be returned to the Crown, but I think it would be better to make them new Commonwealth Realms rather than putting them under the control of Partiament.

If we want the EU to fuck off and die it would help if we elected representatives who matched that view.

I like the use of the 1975 referendum as an example without acknowledgement that it happened *after* the UK had joined.

Fuck off and die? No. not really, I’d just like us not to be part of the EU. I wish them well and hope they prosper but without us as a member.

Eddy, I too wish the *nations of Europe* well and hope they prosper.

And to that end, as well as our own benefit, I’d like the *European Union* to proceed as our host suggests.

    Eddy>

Broadly speaking, I have no problem with some kind of federal Europe*. I still think the EU is an abomination that should fuck off and die.

[*I would say 'with the UK in it', but I think countries are obsolete - maybe 'with the territories which currently constitute the UK'.]

I like the use of the 1975 referendum as an example without acknowledgement that it happened *after* the UK had joined.

Also the wider point that the 1975 referendum was about contiued membership of the Common Market (i.e. a free trade zone), rather than the political union which is what the EU has descended into.

Heath was a fool and Maggie learned too late that the Road from Maastricht would be paved with English taxes.

    His figures are suspect.

This site shows that the UK and Italy both pay net about the same:
