I largely agree but it matters for military power – that the Netherlands had a higher GDP/capita than Germany didn’t help it in 1940.
I think you also mislead on “sunshine, capirinhas and football be damned”. Sunshine isn’t well captured in GDP, indeed a nicer climate might mean a lower GDP in some ways.
