Some of the disapproving commenters here might want to consider that the Christian religion has a surrogacy arrangement as its foundational story.

    And I suppose, given the genetic origin of the Son of God, that would explain his generalised-altruism-love-your-neighbour-as-yourself stuff, according to the kin selection theorists. ;)

    Except that in the Christian foundation story the mother cared for the baby and didn’t hand it over. So not really surrogacy.
    (Unless you consider the dedication in the Temple after eight days to be the hand-over.)
