Making it a sackable offence to advertise a public sector job in a GMG-owned paper would go a long way towards clipping their wings and without a hint of coercion (no-one not gripped in the most florid form of Toynbee-esque entitlement claims freedom of speech implies the right to insist the State buy you a megaphone). For an example of the free market treatment of a Depression, "tested to destruction" the Great Depression of 1920-1921 is a good example. The laissez-faire approach was so successful was that no ones ever heard of it!
