No idea, but it’s not that unusual a name, is it? I must admit for some years (I can’t think why really) I thought Simon Barnes was Julian Barnes, the novelist.

I thouht he played at fly half for Bath.

It’s clearly not the same person because this Simon Barnes or Simon “not the Times columnist” Barnes refers to having worked undercover as a postman back in 2004 which I’m sure the other one would have mentioned at some point.
Also Simon ‘nttc’ Barnes isn’t as pretentious as as his namesake.
