The World Trade Organisation is understood to have ruled that subsidies provided by European countries for Airbus’s A380 superjumbo were illegal.

Anyone ever really think different?

    Hardly. The only question is whether the slightly more covert US subsidies to Boeing (and General Electric) are going to be ruled agin the rules too.

    Then, of course, there is always the question of what notice the EU are going to take of this decision.

    Sorry but what subsidies would these be? You mean the ones whereby a consumer decides he needs a product which does not yet exist and so funds someone to design it, and then decides he does not want to go into the aircraft manufacturing business and so sells off the IPR cheap?

    How is that a subsidy? Or do you think the militaries of the world should be confined to off-the-shelf equipment?
