Tim Worstall

It is all obvious or trivial except…

Oh how true

I think that the main issue with inequality is not the gap between the rich and the poor. It is the gap between the earnings of top business leaders (or bankers in the English experience- Tim) and the salaries of academics and journalists (At the Guardian, ditto-Tim).

I think the main inequality problem is the difference in housing between workers and people on long term benefits. Often the later have a lot nicer housing and it does not seem very fair.

I think the main gap is between people in prison and children in care …the wrong way.

If you want to insert comments of your own in a piece then you need to use square brackets.

I think the most important inequalities are in beauty, popularity, intelligence, health and being loved. Perhaps even in that order.

“If you want to insert comments of your own in a piece then you need to use square brackets.”

    Does he? Why?

@1, so it’s alleged, but not generally with any evidence (at least, for people with the same needs. A jobless family with kids will get a nicer flat than a single employed person, that’s true).

@2, luckily, they’re largely the same people.

Some people hear the phrase, “if you is so smart, how come you ain’t rich?” and think, “yeah, I’d better do something about it.” Others think, “yeah, who can I blame for that?”

I think the main inequality is between what I deserve and what I have. I should word for the Guardian.

What is Kylie doing this weekend?

It was perfectly clear which were Tim’s own comments, because he distinguished them by USING ITALICS and SIGNING THEM “TIM”. Since there was no ambiguity, why shouldn’t he use whatever kind of brackets he likes? Where does NEED come into it?

I think Tim breached some ‘blog ettiquette’ previously known only to the Sacred Keepers of The Square Brackets over at PP.

God only knows what the punishment will be. But I suspect a ducking stool and a cold weed covered pond lurks in his future…

    Or possibly an Iron Maiden.

This being 2009, PP are unlikely to be able to find a real maiden…

Why should they? I used to work in Woking most of us could not afford to live there but there would loads of single mums who could have done nothing anywhere who got housing there.

    JuilaM:

Square brackets indicate that you are inserting your own note into something else. Round brackets are for everyday use (like now for instance).

    Don’t be such a pendant.

“Square brackets indicate that you are inserting your own note into something else. Round brackets are for everyday use..”

Good grief! It’s ‘Miss Manners’ for the blogosphere…

Plus he mis-spelt ‘Julia’. Muphry’s Law rides again!

Oops- well spotted David Gillies. Bound to happen. Heh.
