Weird fact of the day

High school cheerleading accounted for 65.1 percent of all catastrophic sports injuries among high school females over the past 25 years.

I’m assuming that getting pregnant by the quarterback is being defined here as a catastrophic injury….

At least cheerleading isn’t as camp as American football.

Cheer-leading these days seems to mainly about catapulting skinny girls fifteen feet into the air, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they have more accidents than the actual sport they are cheering.

Spud is right: it’s the tendency of high schools to up the ante by performing ever more spectacular antics.

If you’ve ever actually watched US sports live, you’ll notice that the real cheerleaders aren’t doing trapeze acts: they are there to look pretty and jump up and down at the appropriate time and possibly do a little dance at half time. Anything else would distract from the game which is, after all, what the bulk of spectators are there to see.
