I see where you’re coming from on the service v. price rating (Guardian comment) but it’s also true that the scope for creating colossal (potentially expensive) screw-ups when moving accounts from one bank to another, is enormous. If there was a simple, guaranteed-foolproof way of transferring from one bank to a new one, reasonably effortlessly, there’d be a damn sight more people doing it.
Not of course that I’d suggest for a moment that banks have a vested interest in keeping the process pain-filled and treacherous.
