Really rather confused here. She’s complaining about all the meat that people eat, how it’s trashing the planet.
This time last year it cost me about £7.50 a month to feed a pig on my small farm in Somerset; today it’s nearer £15.
So I trust that you’ll be shutting down that pig production unit for the sake of Gaia then?

Eating meat is an awfully inefficient way of fueling humans. And eating predators is extra specially bad. If the bansturbators want to frot then tiger penis soup, shark steaks and dog would be the places to start.

Depends whether you’re talking about animals fed on crops grown on arable land that could also be used for growing food for humans or animals raised on marginal land that is not suitable for other forms of agriculture. My understanding is that most animal farming falls into the later category.

In the US and Europe at least, that’d be “fell”, not “falls”, as most animals are kept indoors and crop-fed.
This is another reason why food miles is a stupid concept - NZ lamb is made of 100% pure grass…

Good point. A sheep is pretty good machine for turning grass into protein. I’m sure one day we could turn that grass into biofuel, but until then we can eat the woolly buggers.

Amen. I wonder what the Soil Association has to say about frozen New Zealand lamb sent by ship? I mean, it’s thousands of miles away, but the farmers aren’t poor and black. What a dilemma.

She also hasn’t noticed that the rising prices she’s worried about are the best solution to the problem she identifies, if it’s a real one.
