If ever there were a contender for first prize in ‘truth stranger than fiction’, this one would be in the running.
Having said that, the story of Spike Milligan turning up outside a theatre with a pistol, intent on killing Bill ‘Compo’ Owen, must go down in history as one of the more extreme audience reactions.
