Fancy Sponsoring a Hospice?

March 3rd, 2008 · 2 Comments

Long term correspondent of this blog, Charles Robertson, over in Jersey, is taking part in a rally from Jersey to Monaco in May. The aim is to raise some £45,000 for Jersey Hospice Care.

There, as here, the hospice movement is charity, not tax, funded.

Given the starting and end points, you won’t be surprised to find that Gift Aid does not apply.

To qualify for Gift Aid, the charity has to be UK resident and the donor has to pay UK tax, it is not so important where the fundraising or fundspending is.

That said, I personally would get rid of charity tax breaks completely.

My local hospice is a charity, but recently received a grant for about £340K from the NHS.
