It is all obvious or trivial except…

Alan Duncan

March 3rd, 2008 · 12 Comments

Mr Duncan, 50, an MP since 1992, will be the first member of the Cabinet or shadow cabinet to have entered into a legal partnership with a same-sex partner……

Mr Duncan popped the question to Mr Dunseath on holiday in Oman on Valentine’s Day.

Mr Duncan said: "James joked that if I had not asked him on Valentine’s Day he would have asked me on Feb 29."

D’ye think that might be a little more about the detailed mechanics of their love life than we really want to know?

Dunky Duncan rocks! If it were a same sex couple coming out with this sort of drivel, nobody would bat an eyelid, why should it be any different for two gay blokes? Don’t be such a spoilsport, Tim.

I agree, too much detail. We don’t need to know the ins and outs of it.

“why should it be any different for two gay blokes? Don’t be such a spoilsport, Tim.”

Indeed. Drivel is drivel, regardless of its sexual orientation.

I suppose we are not allowed to say anything except, What wonderful news.

I wonder if they are aware of the penalty such behaviour attracts in Oman?

Obviously, when I say “if it were a same sex couple” I mean “a straight couple”, sorry, too early in the morning for minor details like that. And he’s called ‘Dinky’ not ‘Dunky’. Ah well.

“I wonder if they are aware of the penalty such behaviour attracts in Oman?”

Yeah, I wondered that too. With the Saudi Moral Police arresting people for sitting in a coffee bar and looking at women, and the Dubai police arresting people for “possession” of micrograms of cannabis on the sole of a shoe, it doesn’t look good for Duncan to make a return trip..

“I suppose we are not allowed to say anything except, What wonderful news.”

No, you can call it drivel. Drivel drivel drivel drivel.

I thought the unmarried Sultan Qaboos of Oman and his longtime personal adviser, an unmarried British man called Erik Bennett, were well known for turning a blind eye to certain activities…?

Personally, I found the news quite nice to hear but then I’m a bit of a softie about this sort of thing.

Mark, how come your comments here now have acronyms after your name? What do they stand for?

  • 11 Kay Tie // Mar 3, 2008 at 7:23 pm

    “What do they stand for?”

ACCA means he’s a proper accountant. LLB means he’s a limited liability bachelor. ATII means he owns shares in a PC graphics chip company. And BA means that he’s training to be a pilot.

    Kay Tie (or even Mark),

Perhaps you can explain what his putting them on his ‘tag’ might mean. Especially for a “simplification campaigner”.
