I can’t help feeling wary at this turn of events. Our criminal law should be designed to prosecute those who commit harmful acts against people, and protected sentient species. There is no way anyone can inflict harm on a mere avatar, a fantasy. The premise that this “thoughtcrime” should be criminalised is very dangerous for civil liberties. We have real criminals, who have caused real harm, roaming the streets after early release from risible prison sentences. And that is very dangerous for civil liberties too. We sould be dealing with real crime, instead of charging off into cyberspace, like the illogical in pursuit of the insubstantial.
