At the ASI. On how we rich world consumers subsidize medicines (rightly so) for the poor.

    Ah yes, but drugs companeis are BIG and PRIVATELY RUN and either they make OBSECENE PROFITS or they make RECKLESS LOSSES and they sell stuff abroad, so they are guilty of GLOBALISATION as well and on the one hand they are RIPPING OFF us poor Westerners by charging higher prices here but on the other hand they are not giving away the stuff for free in the Third World so they are EXPLOITING them off as well, hence BIG PHARMA is EVIL. And they test drugs on POOR INNOCENT ANIMALS.

    Which is fine until you get sick and medicine makes you better, people overlook that bit.

    Your transcript of the Usmanov speech ends abruptly, on my screen anyway. Leaving the comment here, because I can’t leave it on that post!

    Yes, it also rather cuts off all posts below it on the site archive pages. There’s a funny bit of scripting after the paragraph that ends “bag of shopping”, which makes browsers (or IE at least) not display any of the HTML beneath it:

<p style=\”margin:0cm 0cm 0pt\”\> </p\>
<p style=\”margin:0cm 0cm 0pt\”\>

    Tim adds: Think I’ve got rid of it.
