After years - literally, years - of public consultation on the location of a new acute hospital to replace our aged local hospital where John Major was born more than 60 years ago, the local consensus about location was later overturned by Patricia Hewitt, our previous health minister, who directed the choice of a different site. Now, it has been decided that a new hospital can't be afforded anyway when millions have been wasted on pointless consultation exercises and abortive planning on the various sites.
